On the evening of 30 May, the new container ship CMA CGM ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT was christened in the port of Hamburg. The ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT is next to the CMA CGM MARCO POLO and also the new CMA CGM JULES VERNE, the third container ship from CMA CGM with a load capacity of over 16,000 standard containers. All three ships were named after great explorers.

The ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT is 396m long, 54m wide and has a fully loaded draft of 16 meters. The christening was performed at the site of the container terminal HHLA. CMA CGM is the largest container supplier in the port of Hamburg. Shipping company CEO Jacques R. Saadé spoke during the opening ceremony of a big sign on the importance of the port of Hamburg and its Additional Rent winding for large container ships.

During the ceremony, also spoke the CMA CGM managing director of Germany Mr. Reinhard Peschel and the first mayor of the city of Hamburg, Mr. Olaf Scholz. The event invited guests had the opportunity to visit the container ship and could enjoy a unique view of the port of Hamburg. The weather was in the evening with lots of sun and blue sky at its best, which in turn should be a good omen for this container giant.

At about 20:30 p.m. begans the Highlight. Godmother Dr. Dorothee Stapefeld christened the container ship to the name CMA CGM ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT. There was a rain of confetti cannons and balloons ascending. A gigantic spectacle! The godmother called the christening ceremony in Hamburg as a sign of great trust of the shipping company CMA CGM over the Port of Hamburg.

On 12 June is expected the third container ship of this size in Hamburg. The CMA CGM JULES VERNE was previously christened in Marseille.

Special thanks to CMA CGM and the Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG
